Founded in 1971, the " Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railway " (formerly American Rail Heritage Ltd) is a small railroad that operate a line between Marion and Herrin on the Southern Illinois region.

It was recognized for a while as the last railroad using steam locomotive in their regular freight service until 1986.

It owns 13.5 miles of tracks across the industrial centers of Williamson County.

In 2012, the American Rail Heritage Ltd sell the railroad to Progressive Rail Inc where the name is change for " Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railway ".

The size of their fleet is unknown, But according to their website, they own about half a dozen of locomotive. During my train fanning session, I often see their rolling stock which make me think that they probably own a few thousand cars, but like I said, this is a personal estimate.

Lors de mes sessions de " train fanning ", souvent j'aperçois leurs matériels dans les convois, ce qui me fait évaluer leurs flottes à environ quelques milliers de wagons, mais ceci est une évaluation personnel!.
