According to the GATX website, the company was founded in Chicago in 1898. They own railroad cars all over the world. In North America, their website claim that their fleet has more than 131 000 railroad cars and more than 800 locomotives. They are the owner of 17 Great Lake ships too by the way!
Sometimes called "General American Marks company", Wikipedia says that GATX is the second biggest leasing company for train cars in North America.
In their fleet, they own all kind of railroad cars, but, the most common one we see with their marks are tankers.
Strangely, in the "Official Railway Equipment Register", there seemed to be a difference between GATX Canada and GATX the Company. Yet, website (like the Industry Canada website) clearly says that GATX Rail Canada Corporation can lease over 120 000 railroad cars and the GATX main website is clearly displayed, so, I assume that GATX Canada Corp and GATX "North America" is one of the same.
Since the identification mark for this company finish with an "X", it mean that this company own railroad cars but no railroads.

Ils possèdent toute sorte de matériel ferroviaire, mais le type de leurs matériels que l'on voit le plus sont des voitures citernes.
Curieusement, dans le "Official Railway Equipment Register" , fait une distinction entre le matériel de " GATX Canada " et GATX de " l'Amérique du Nord ". Le site web d'Industrie Canada, lui, dit clairement que c'est la même compagnie, affichant même l'url du site web de GACX.
Comme l'identification du matériel roulant de cette compagnie fini avec un " X ", ceci veut dire que cette compagnie possède du matériel roulant mais, sans posséder de compagnie de chemin de fer.
